The American International School of Zagreb is inviting the community to come together for a fun Yard Sale on June 6, 2026, from 9:00 to 13:00 at the school campus (Ul. Damira Tomljanovića Gavrana 3, Zagreb). This lively event offers a great opportunity to buy and sell a wide variety of items, including books, furniture, clothes, toys, kitchenware, décor, and more. Whether you're looking to declutter your home or find unique treasures, the yard sale promises something for everyone. Community members interested in selling their items can reserve a table by contacting yardsale@aisz.hr. A donation of €20 per table is required, with all proceeds supporting charity work in Africa. In addition, any unsold textile items will be donated to a local charity, ensuring that contributions continue to make a positive impact. AISZ encourages families, students, and friends to join in, support a good cause, and enjoy a vibrant morning of community connection and sustainability.

This past Saturday, May 9th, the AISZ tennis courts came alive with energy, determination, and community spirit as nine doubles teams battled it out in an unforgettable tennis tournament. From the very first serve to the final point, the level of play was outstanding. Each doubles pair brought passion, teamwork, and competitive fire to the courts, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and sportsmanship throughout the day. With every match contributing valuable points toward the overall standings, players fought hard to climb the leaderboard and keep their championship hopes alive. The tournament format kept everyone engaged until the very end, as the standings shifted continuously with every hard-earned victory. Long rallies, clever shot-making, and incredible teamwork highlighted the event, while spectators enjoyed a day packed with thrilling tennis and great camaraderie. Although every team delivered exceptional performances and made the competition incredibly close, in the end there could only be one champion. After a fantastic series of matches, the winning doubles team emerged on top, earning well-deserved recognition for their consistency, resilience, and outstanding play throughout the tournament. Beyond the competition itself, the event was a wonderful celebration of the AISZ community — bringing together tennis enthusiasts for a day of connection, fun, and healthy rivalry both on and off the court. A huge thank you goes to all participants, organizers, and supporters who helped make the tournament such a success. We look forward to many more memorable tennis events at AISZ in the future!

Battle of the Books Returns to AISZ The excitement was palpable as our Lower School students came together for this year’s highly anticipated Battle of the Books competition. Bringing together enthusiastic readers from Grades 3, 4, and 5, the event celebrated not only a love of reading, but also teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit. Over the past several months, participating students dedicated themselves to reading a carefully selected collection of nine books spanning a variety of genres and reading levels. Working collaboratively in teams of three to four, students went beyond simply reading the books — they also created their own competition-style questions, encouraging deeper comprehension, close reading, and critical thinking skills. Students took ownership of the event from the very beginning. They voted for a double-elimination tournament structure, ensuring that teams had multiple opportunities to compete and demonstrate their knowledge. In preparation for the competition, students met several times to review the rules, practice using the buzzer system, and prepare team strategies. Team shirts and enthusiastic cheering sections added even more excitement to the atmosphere. The competition itself was fast-paced, engaging, and full of energy. Inspired by Knowledge Bowl-style tournaments, teams used buzzers to answer detailed questions about the books they had read. Throughout the event, students displayed impressive recall, thoughtful collaboration, and outstanding sportsmanship. The room was filled with excitement as teams competed in a spirit of friendly rivalry and mutual encouragement. Beyond the competition, Battle of the Books continues to be an important opportunity for students to strengthen valuable lifelong skills such as collaboration, communication, time management, and perseverance. Most importantly, it helps foster a vibrant reading culture within our AISZ community. We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated and grateful to the teachers, staff, and families who supported them along the way.
