NHS Induction Ceremony: Thursday, April 12, 2018
Congratulations to AISZ’s newly inducted grade 11 and grade 10 National Honor Society members: Tibor Babovic, Lauren Beers, Alex Chen, Grgur Damianai, Antonina Kokoourova, Borna Mustapic, Marija Pasalic, Aphrodite Boesche, Magdalena Butina, Pauline Calcoen, Loukas Dimitropoulos, Camilla DiFelice, Louis Kapplen, Na Eun Kim, and Matea Mandaric.
NHS membership is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student: one who manifests strong character and who excels in academics, leadership, and service.
NHS co-presidents Alexandra Hunt and Marcella Vargic welcomed our inductees, parents, faculty, and students. Francesca Losacco gave a short history of the national organization, and reminded students that NHS chapters have been steered by the ambitions of “creating enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulating a desire to render service, promoting leadership, and developing character” in secondary school students.
During a candle lighting service, Nina Secak, Leonilla Shevchenko, Isabelle Enquist, and Eva Blagovic spoke on the four qualities that are the cornerstones of the honor society: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Our fifteen inductees then stood and joined the co-presidents in reciting the NHS pledge. Each inductee stepped forward to receive a certificate of membership from Mrs. Chandler, NHS chapter advisor. Following the pledge and induction, Mrs. Sprlan reminded the inductees that NHS membership is more than an honor. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in selection.
Mr. Buckley congratulated the inductees and gave closing remarks. He thanked our grade 12 NHS members for their service and leadership to our school family and within the Zagreb community through the orphanage service project. He thanked the parents and all present and spoke about the value of the four cornerstones to our school community. He then issued a challenge to the returning NHS members as servant-leaders for the next school year. He proposed that they draft a Student Charter – applicable to all students from the youngest 3 year olds to the oldest grade 12 students – that would guide and inspire their choices and actions and help them to embrace leadership, service, and integrity as cornerstones of our new school.

I pledge to uphold
The high purposes of the National Honor Society
To which I have been selected;
I will be true to the principles for which it stands;
