Director's news - May 16th, 2018

It is an exciting week for us at AISZ.

Graduation

Our Senior Class will graduate this Saturday evening at 17:00. This is the culmination of their successful school career and a life time of opportunities await them.

Congratulations to the AISZ Class of 2108. Thank you to all the parents, teachers and families who supported our Seniors through all their years of school.

Diversity Education

Yesterday in the Upper School I launched our Focus on Diversity and Inclusion in a short assembly. During this assembly I spoke with the Upper School about the month they have left at school this year and how we need to move forward together, embracing our differences and celebrating our similarities. I took the opportunity to explain the symbology of the new AISZ School Logo which will be officially launched at the end of the month and discussed the attributes of the international citizens we expect our students to be. The Middle School and High School will have dedicated lessons this week focusing on diversity and inclusion and this will be a more explicit and ongoing feature of our curriculum. We have conducted a curriculum audit of where diversity and inclusion already exists in our learning program and will look to further enhance this. Further work focusing on diversity and inclusion will be developed as we have met earlier in the month with a group of parents keen to help us in this area. The PTA has also committed to take an active role in the promotion of this. We are diverse as a school because we come form all over the world. We need to also be committed to embracing this diversity and becoming inclusive in our outlook.

The Lower School will be launching their Focus on Diversity and Inclusion in the next few days.

The presentation I used in the Upper School Assembly is attached. The second slide explains the meaning of our new logo. Please talk to your child about what we discussed and the lessons they took part in if they are in the Upper School. If you which to join our parent group on Diversity and Inclusion, please let me know.

Hiring Complete

This week we finished our hiring with the recruitment of Ms. Zoe Rafferty who will be teaching in the upper section of our Lower School. Ms. Rafferty currently teaches Grade 5 in Fairfax County, Virginia, USA and come to us with outstanding references.

Bundek Campus

Parent tours are scheduled for this Saturday at 10:00 and next Wednesday at 10:00. If you are able to join us, please choose and submit a time that would be better for you here.

GDPR

Like almost every other organization in Europe we are working hard on our privacy policies to bring them in line wit the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations. As such we will soon be requiring you to opt into our policies. I am sure you have probably been receiving emails from other organizations requesting you do the same for them. Companies like Google, Facebook even probably your bank are sending you new privacy messages and soon we will be required to send you the same. It is an essential European requirement and as such you will need to respond in order for our system to be able to provide you with access to our systems and hence our school reports.

Yours in International Education
