The following courses are taught by Specialist teachers.
We offer three additional languages in the Lower School: Croatian, French and German. We develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a relaxed and stimulating environment, using literature, technology, games and collaborative activities. World Language classes are offered to children in grades 1– 5, and Croatian is taken by native speakers three to four times per week.
The arts provide a unique means of accessing learners’ imagination and creativity, providing a way of seeing, understanding and communicating. Within an environment of empathy and respect, students explore a variety of media, techniques, skills and processes. Students are assessed on how well they: design and produce visual creations and interpret visual creations.
Music instruction take place in the classroom for Pre-K and Kindergarten students, and in the Music Room twice per week for students in grades 1-5. A sequential skills based curriculum allows our students to venture into reading music, listening, singing, moving, playing instruments, composing, recording with technology, improvising, performing, and connecting music to other areas of learning at AISZ. There are opportunities to pursue choir, drama, and dance after school.
Our primary goal in Lower School physical education is to help children develop a physically active and healthy lifestyle and the enjoyment of different types of sports and physical activities. In PE classes and after school activities, students have the opportunity to develop proficiency in a variety of movement forms while learning appropriate personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. It also allows students to think critically and creatively, work co-operatively and independently, listen and communicate effectively.
