The Lower School Counsellor provides support to students and their families from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade to:
- in cooperation with teachers, provide the students with a comprehensive character education program, stressing the fundamental aspects of our school’s mission.
- work with students both individually and in group settings if they are experiencing social/emotional difficulties. A very important element is to assist students and their families’ transition into a new school and cultural environment, as well as help prepare students and families who are departing AISZ.
- as a member of the Student Support Services Team, be involved in the academic lives of students; working with the student, parents and teachers to ensure that the student is receiving the types of services and program they require (e. g. Learning Support, "English as an Additional Language", etc.).
- coordinate the standardized testing that is administered. The students in grades 3-7 will be administered the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress Assessment) in the fall and spring trimester.
